I am going to tell you my story.
I hope you will bear with me being the center of this talk as my intention is this will help someone.
After major spinal surgery reversed paralysis in my legs during my nursing career late in 20th century, I developed Restless Legs syndrome ( RLS).
Yes, I was a registered nurse for 45 years. This fact significantly influenced my thoughts and belief in modern medicine. I was an extreme skeptic of alternative medicine.
My legs were never still and would jerk continuously throughout the day more severely at night. Each jerk caused stabbing fireworks in my back and the night pains felt like firecrackers striking up into my brain.
My mother developed Restless legs at 70. We believe her mother also had it so there is evidence that I had a familial tendency anyway.
A family history of RLS make up approximately 50% of cases, and people with low iron levels or anaemia, chronic diseases such as kidney failure, diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, and peripheral neuropathy, some pregnant women in their last trimester and people taking certain medications – such as anti-nausea, anti-seizure, and antipsychotic drugs, and some cold and allergy medications – appear to be more likely to suffer from RLS.
Generally symptoms increase in severity over time.
Medical treatment is medication. Over 26 years, I would become addicted to these medications, go through withdrawals and then start new medications with new side effects. I self medicated with alcohol as well.
Speeding through to my last specialist visit prior to Christmas 2014, I told him the 5 prescription medications were no longer working for me ( I had developed tolerance again)
His advice was to try to surgically disrupt the nerves.
I was that desperate I actually thought it was a great idea except that he added there was no guarantee that it would also solve the restless legs so I could be paralyzed in a wheelchair but still have jumping legs!
The few weeks following Christmas were desperate and I fantasied my exit from this life very carefully.
Which neatly leads me to the very day I met doTerra.
A lady offered me a drop of vetiver oil for each of my big toes after an Aromatouch massage !
I researched and discovered DDR Prime cellular renewal capsules, lavender and frankincense and all these became my daily essential oil products. I was able to wean off my other prescription medications very quickly and resist the allure of red wine and so far I have not looked back
In conjunction with these changes,
I now follow an exercise program,
weight loss happened with a more nutrition plan and
I ACTIVELY DO personal development as I’VE learnt more about the doTerra lifestyle and layers of wellness living.
This syndrome does need a holistic approach.
Interestingly one of the modern medical known restless legs treatments I was on very early in the piece was called evening primrose oil but I did not have the same results from that… maybe because it was not a pure product, who knows?
Hot nights my legs will still start to go crazy so I add Marjoram and Deep Blue oils as a leg massage.
Lifelong vitality supplements have a nutritional amount of magnesium in it. I do sometimes also rub my legs with a magnesium oil as my carrier oil with Deep Blue soothing oil blend when the pain and cramping is severe.
I never miss using my 2 vetiver drops STRAIGHT ON MY BIG TOES before I go to bed!
My nightly diffuser has Lavender and frankincense with respiratory blend and On Guard protective blend.
My Fitbit shows I average 7 hours of sleep a night with 20% REM as opposed to 3 in the bad old days with barely any REM- that alone is such a great blessing for me!
