What Ripple Effect can I start?
Everyone can do something to make the world a better place.....what about me and you?
Today's journal post is about a BIG Part of my very reason for doing my business at my age instead of sitting back and taking it easy crocheting in my armchair......
I spent 2 and half decades just surviving and not really thinking about anyone else-I did not have the energy or the time or the heart centred love to do more than just put one foot in front of another and get through my days due to post traumatic syndrome due to a horrific crime in 2003.
Six years ago I was introduced to an organisation called Kairos Outside for Women that runs retreats twice a year for women over 18 years who have been impacted by someone in jail.
I attended one of the weekends as a guest and it was life changing for me.
It was so life changing that I am now on the leadership team of the entirely volunteer run organisation called Kairos Outside for Women.
"Kairos" is Greek for a "special divine time- God's appointed time"...isn't that beautiful?
Kairos Outside for Women is active in many regions across Australia and there is a strong commitment to expand that to cover the nation. The team on KOW provides a safe environment over a weekend where guests (those who are participating in the weekend) are given an opportunity to interact with other families without shame or judgement.
This time allows these women, perhaps for the first time, to explore and experience unconditional love and support. And it helps women meet other women who really understand their situation.
A typical KOW weekend gives participants the opportunity to make a positive change in their attitudes to their circumstances, lets them know they are not alone and it gives them the opportunity to go forward with support, often when there was no end to the tunnel in sight. The weekend is also a time of fun, music, an abundance of food and the making of new friends! A time where hope is shone on them.
The positive impact of the weekend has been proven to affect generations of families thus benefitting society as well as the individual women.
Now THAT is a cause worth supporting!
Sadly Covid 2020 put a stop to our organisational activities as the majority of our volunteers are in what is considered to be the vulnerable age group.
As of today we now have permission to re- start our planning and organising for a retreat February 2021 which is very exciting.
Normally we would fund raise throughout the year as the events are completely free for our guests but this year fundraising events had to be halted.
And this brings me to my ripple effect that I am asking you to contribute any small amount to in sisterhood support:
we are currently fundraising to provide funds for these retreats via: https://www.facebook.com/donate/422254669130825/2743464439203496/
If this blog triggers YOU or anyone YOU know to reach out for support about this topic please feel free to email me in the utmost confidentiality in order to be followed up with Kairos support.
